Moving to another participating employer
If within 6 months of leaving an employer that participates in
the Plan you are hired by another employer that participates in the Plan:
You can choose to rejoin the Plan immediately (even if you do not satisfy the
usual eligibility rules for a new employee), provided:
-
you did not withdraw your benefits from the Plan when you left your previous
employer; and,
-
you are an employee in the included group of employees for which your new
employer maintains participation in the Plan.
If you choose to rejoin, your pension credits (continuous service and
credited service) from the two periods of employment will be
combined for the purpose of:
-
determining your early retirement or optional retirement eligibility (i.e.,
when you can retire - which relates to continuous service); and,
-
calculating your pension (i.e., determining how much pension you will receive –
which relates to credited service).
If after 6 months of leaving an employer that participates in
the Plan you are hired by another employer that participates in the Plan:
You will be treated as a new employee for Plan purposes. This means you will
need to meet the Plan's eligibility rules in order to rejoin the Plan. For
greater certainty, please note that this condition applies even if you left a
deferred pension in the Plan from service with your previous employer.
