Bridging benefits

If you retire before age 65, on a reduced or unreduced pension, you will receive a temporary bridging benefit in addition to your monthly lifetime pension. It is called a “bridging benefit” because it “bridges” you from the date of your early retirement to age 65 - when you become eligible to start to receive an unreduced pension from the Canada Pension Plan.

The bridging benefit is paid until you turn 65 or die, whichever comes first.
